What Will We Do With The Time That’s Left?
Time is our most valuable commodity. We can make a better living but can't make more time. Time waits for no one. It marches on by in single second ticks.
You might know this, but every morning we wake up, we get a total of 86.400 in our bank account. What doesn’t get spent, will never roll over to the next day. It’s gone. However what we use, is invested forever. We all have this bank account. It’s called TIME. We get 86.400 seconds in a day. They're precious moments that never come back.
I’ve heard it said: -What is the real value of time?
If you want to know the value of a year: Ask a student who got held back.
If you want to know the value of a month: Ask the Mom of a premature baby.
If you want to know the value of a week: Ask the editor of a weekly magazine.
If you want to know the value of a day: Ask the wage earner who has six kids.
If you want to know the value of an hour: Ask two lovers who are about to meet.
If you want to know the value of a minute: Ask someone who missed their flight.
If you want to know the value of a second: Ask the accident survivor.
If you want to know the value of a millisecond: Ask the Olympian who won Silver.
Joan Rivers once said: “Yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, today is God’s gift. That’s why we call it the present.” We all have this gift. -But are we making the best of the time we have? Time is the most precious gift we give to others. When we spend time with family, or friends, or take time to go see our parents -it’s the most valuable gift we can give them, because we have invested those moments in them, knowing that we can never get them back.
Time is wonderful when it’s cherished, shared and celebrated. This past week we celebrated our 20th Wedding Anniversary and it was a beautiful ceremony. We said our vows and I wore my original wedding dress. Yes, it still kind of fits! It is such a simple but meaningful tradition, which we’ve honored every year! This year my son didn’t say: “Haven’t you two established this by now?” like last year! I think he’s getting why this is such a big deal for us! We love reminding ourselves why we chose each other and why we fell in love, even after all these years...
Although, when the time is up for our pets, we also grieve them. In the same week, we had to put our twelve year-old dog down. Of course it was one of those things, you’d rather skip because of the emotional toll on our family. But we chose to focus on how we had adopted him and given him a great life. Remembering the good memories and how many walks we’d taken together all these years. I think that’s what really counts after all, the time we shared.
In the Bible in Psalm 90:12 it reads: “Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should.” (The Living Bible).
This short verse packs such a powerful truth. How inspiring it is for me to learn to live my life the way it matters, doing the best I can with the time I've got.
I hope you find the time to focus on what you really want to do with your life. Allow yourself time to experience what you’ve been hoping to achieve. Don’t be so busy making a living you forget to make a life. Take that trip. Visit the ones you love. Finish your Paper. Open that business you've been dreaming of. Call that friend you’ve been meaning to. Time is going by so fast! Life is already in session!
I think you won’t regret the time you took out of your schedule, to pursue what really makes you feel alive. That will be investing your time wisely, instead of watching your life go by in single second ticks. -So my question still stands: “What will you do with the time that’s left?”
